Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Fuji is a mountain in central Japan on the south coast of Honshū Island, southwest of the Tokyo metropolitan area. At its summit was built a meteorological observatory and despite the harsh climatic conditions, the mountain is an extremely popular destination especially for the Japanese, whether Shinto or Buddhist, because of its characteristic form and the traditional religious symbolism that it represents.
