Tsuru

The Japanese crane is a large wading bird in the gruidae family. It is one of the largest birds in the world. In Japan, it is named tanchō.

The crane is an important animal for Japan as it symbolizes longevity and good fortune. Tradition has it that whoever folds a thousand paper cranes sees their wish granted.
