Koï

Important in Japanese popular culture, Koï carps are found in park ponds and lakes. Decorative, they bring beauty and serenity to the garden, as well as a touch of color and life in these places of calm. A symbol of love and virility, they represent strength and perseverance as they ascended the rivers and waterfalls of Japan and Asia. In China, a legend tells that the carp of the yellow river which succeeded in going up it won the sky to turn into a dragon. In Japan, this legend is said to be the origin of the Koï-nobori (carp banners).
